Farm To School, a Canada World Youth Perspective

Tessa, Duilio and Henry Preparing food for Farm to School CGC is lucky to have two great Canada World Youth (CWY) volunteers helping us out with our activities. From helping Jay at Warmland house to helping Heather at Farm To School, we have kept the guys busy. This week the CWY were helping out with Farm To School. I asked Duilio to write about the experience (he's first language is in Portuguese, there is a translation at the bottom of his writings).

Duilio is a Canada World Youth

Translate to English: My day started like other days in Duncan, Canada. I woke up very early to go to work. When I arrived, I had some tasks to do for Farm to School – peeling and chopping vegetables. Then, my coworkers and I went into the kitchen to begin making delicious lunch. We made many recipes, including salad with cheese and fresh bacon bits, and an amazing soup. We went to the site where we were going to serve school students while others continued in the kitchen. We prepared raw ingredients and put together the menu. We set the table during recess when everyone could have the snack that we served. The majority of the students liked the delicacies – some came back for seconds. We kept serving until I noticed that we were already out of the delicous soup! They were very happy and we were too to know that they liked it. For me, it was a great experience both for me and my country, because when I get back, I will try to organize an event like this – it was very fun. This was my work day today.
