Community Gardens

CGC recognizes the importance that backyard and community food production plays in environmental sustainability.

Community gardens provide:

  • A way for the community to come together
  • An opportunity to meet other members of the community and make friends
  • Gives garden space to people who don't have access to space (including fantastic soil)
  • An exchange of information: e.g. how to grow food, weed identification, alternative ways of growing
  • An affordable and extremely healthy food source

Past projects include Jubilee Community Garden, which would not have been possible without the generous support of various community groups, local businesses and government. Jubilee Garden is located at the North end of Centennial park and is now overseen by the Jubilee Garden Group. 

Following the success of this project came the building of Kinsmen Park Neighborhood Community Garden and the ongoing development of Warmland House Community Garden.

The Warmland House Community Garden WISH LIST:

Gardening Supplies: 

  • Rakes, shovels, hoes                              
  • Hand gardening tools and gloves
  • Watering jugs and pitchers
  • Seeds for plants and herbs
  • Seed trays and planting pots
  • Fruit trees, and edible berry bushes

Soil Supplies:

  • Composted Manure (any kind)
  • Spoiled hay, used wood shavings, etc.
  • Leaves, grass clippings and top-soil
  • Compostable items such as:  raw fruit and vegetable scraps, coffee grinds, tea leaves, crushed eggshells, shredded paper,  seaweed, etc. (Please no: meat, cat litter, dog faeces, and other items that attract vermin, etc.)

Building Supplies:

  • Nails and screws (all sizes)
  • Hammers
  • Wood (any dimension)
  • Plywood (any dimension)
  • Skill Saw, Hand Saw, Drill

Kitchen Supplies:

  • Kitchen Faucet  ( we have a sink :)
  • Kitchen counter-top
  • Rubbermaid bins/garbage bins for composting food scraps

Office Supplies:

  • Photocopier
  • Paper
  • Paper cutter
  • Binders/ Folders

 

Note: If you can think of anything else that would be useful, please feel free to drop it off at the CGC Store located on 181 Station Street.
