Cowichan Green Community’s 2nd Annual Edible Garden Tour – More than Meets the Eye!
For Immediate Release: August 2, 2011
These days, opening a seed catalogue is often a feast for the eyes, especially with the resurgence of splashy-coloured heritage varieties of veggies like green and gold striped tomatoes, strawberry corn, and purple beans. Showy colours and unique shapes and textures are not just reserved for the veggie patch either. Fruit trees and herbs can make up the edible landscape too providing visual satisfaction while offering a steady supply of sweet fruit and culinary seasonings.
Cowichan Green Community (CGC) is pleased to announce its second annual Edible Garden Tour, Saturday, August 20th; a Valley-wide exploration of some of the most striking and tasty gardens the Valley has to offer.
With over 10 unique locations to visit, including two of Cowichan Green Community’s community gardens, this year’s tour promises to inspire even the most seasoned grower. Each garden will showcase its own unique take on what is both eye-catching and palate-pleasing.
“This is not your usual ornamental garden tour,” explains Heather Kaye, one of the event organizers with CGC. “All of the gardens, while beautiful, are also utilitarian, serving to feed the family or individual who tends it.”
Tickets start at just $10 for members of CGC; $15 for non-members; $20 for couples or families; and kids under 13 are free. For more information or to buy tickets, please contact Alyssa at 250-748-8506, stop by the office at 181 Station Street, or email alyssa [at] cowichangreencommunity [dot] org.
