Join us for our 3rd Annual Pie Baking Contest.
This year our local ingredient pie baking contest has three categories:
1. Fruit pie 2. Savory pie 3. Iron Chef Pie*
*This category is by preregistration only and is limited to ten participants. A secret local ingredient will be given to participants before the contest so that they can bake their pie.

CONTEST RULES & GUIDELINES:
• All Pie-Baking Contest entrants should use safe food preparation
procedures such as in Food Safe program.
• Pie pastry and pie filling to be made from scratch by the entrant. Filling to
feature as much local (Vancouver Island) ingredients as possible.
• Pies to be baked off-site and delivered by the entrant, to CGC Pie Contest
Booth at Charles Hoey Park by 12:30 pm. Entrants to supply their own
pie plate which should be labeled. Cowichan Green Community, the
on-site coordinators, and volunteer helpers are not liable for any loss,
theft, or damages to pies or pie plates.
• Pies will be judged by three criteria, each of which has maximum potential
of 10 points to make up a final potential 30 point score for the perfect pie:
1. Overall appearance & Presentation (max. 10 points)
2. Originality & Use of local ingredients (max. 10 points)
3. Taste & Texture (max. 10 points)
• There are three Pie Baking categories:
1. Category One – Fruit Pie (any local fruit)
2. Category Two – Savory Pie (any local filling)
3. Category Three – Iron Chef Pie (pre-registration is required and
limited to 10 participants)
• There is a maximum of 1 entry per Pie Baking category. There will be two
awards per category: 1st Prize Ribbon and 2nd Place Honorable
Mention. In the case of a tie, the coordinator-judges will make final
decision.
• The coordinators and a volunteer helper will receive the pies, assign
random numbers and record the category and type of fruit/filling - this will
be the only identifier of the pie.
• The remaining portion of pie that is not consumed by judging will be sold
by the slice to raise funds for CGC.
