Preservation Workshop #1: Back to Basics

Learn the basics of preserving - How to choose and prepare fruits and vegetables in preparation for freezing, dehydrating or canning.  You will get hands on with preparing produce for take home freezing, as well as recipes for home dehydrating.

When:  Thursday August 26, 2010 from 10:00am to 1:00pm
Cost:  $15.00 for CGC members and $20.00 for non-members

It is important to select and prepare fruits and vegetables properly for any type of preserving. So it is best that we start with the basics.

In this class we will review the basics:

  • How and why to choose appropriate fruits and vegetables.
  • How to prepare fruits and vegetables for preserving (freezing, canning, dehydrating).

Hands on we will:

  • Prepare some fruits and/or vegetables for take home freezing.
  • Prepare some fruits for dehydrating by the facilitators that will be available for pickup the next preservation class.

Take home:

  • The participants will get to take home some fruits and/or vegetables for take home freezing.
  • A recipe for fruit leather made in the oven.
