Food Futures Cowichan

Food Futures Cowichan was created to act as a basis for a much-needed local food security infrastructure. Key elements include the identification of local resources and needs assessments for improving community food security.

Food Futures Cowichan involves a series of activities and initiatives including a media campaign to raise awareness of food security issues in the Cowichan region. These include:

  • FruitSave: a program to identify non-commercial fruit grown in Cowichan and create the infrastructure to organize the harvesting, distribution and storage of donated fruit;
  • Garden Link: creating community gardens and connecting homeowners/schools with interested gardeners and volunteers;
  • Greenest Garden Contest: (pilot): a highly publicized community challenge to showcase sustainable urban gardening practices; and
  • Food Chain: web page listing all things food security in the Valley.
