Cowichan Green Community’s Grand Opening
Friday, October, 30th, 10:00am - 3:00pm
181 Station Street
After months of planning, packing, renovating, and initiating our community’s first ever “Zero Carbon Footprint’ move, using only bike trailers and muscle power, Cowichan Green Community (CGC) is settled into their beautiful new location, and it’s time to celebrate.
At 10:00am on Friday, October 30th CGC, will be opening their doors to welcome the community into their brand new space at 181 Station Street. They will be unveiling the expanded CGC Green Store, filled with exciting local and eco/ethical products, as well as the new Resource Center & Lending Library. The Resource Center provides information from local green businesses and organizations, and the Lending Library offers books and journals on alternative technologies, permaculture and organic gardening, ecology and more.
CGC Executive Director Judy Stafford says, “This has been a long time coming for our organization. We’ve certainly grown a lot over the last few years with support from our amazing community and it’s time to celebrate and honour all the hard work of our staff, volunteers, and partnering organizations.”
Many community members were instrumental in supporting CGC’s commitment to keep reducing their impact on the environment. “We would like to thank all who helped with our low-impact move,” Stafford continues, “our incredibly supportive new landlords – Norm and Brian, the Cowichan Recyclists, and Tony’s Trailers, and the great folks at our local thrift store such as Sassy Lion and W.I.N.G.S. who were always on the look-out for bargains for us. We are very proud to say that almost all of our furnishings, including desks and display tables were ‘reclaimed’ and are beautiful, as you’ll see when you come visit.”
“This is an incredible evolution for CGC,” confirms Food Security Program Coordinator Jessica Kerr. “We can now provide an inspiring and welcoming space for people to learn, interact, and connect with community right here, all while we’re developing our own sustainability projects.”
Stop by 181 Station Street any time between 10:00am and 3:00pm to meet all the fabulous people who work at CGC and help celebrate their new space. Organic treats and fresh-pressed Community Apple Cider from the FruitSave Project will be served. See you there!
