Healthy Housing

There are countless complex chemicals and compounds used in the home that are questionable for both the health of the environment and the health of human beings.

The Vancouver Island Diet

"Food Security" means that all members of our society have access to enough food at all times. The food must be nutritious, sufficient, safe and environmentally sustainable. Presently on Vancouver Island, we do not have food security. 90% of our food is brought in from the outside. There are 6 food banks in the Cowichan Valley alone. There are many schools which have had to institute food programs for the students.

Outdoor Air Quality

One would think that living in a place like the Cowichan Valley, surrounded by trees, mountains and ocean, that we would not have any air quality issues, but this is not the case.

Lawns to Gardens

Get rid of your grass and say goodbye to your lawn mower!

Mowing the lawn isn't fun. It takes time and is detrimental to your health and the environment:

Indoor Air Quality

The Cowichan Valley’s temperate climate presents a number of challenges to our housing. Adding to this is the growth in housing-related health and environmental concerns over the last few decades. Construction materials, furniture, carpeting, combustion appliances, household cleaners and personal care products, to name a few, all have direct impacts on indoor air quality.

Climate Change

Although there was not a lot of public discussion about it at the time, the CGC began promoting the issue of global climate change back in 2001.
