Community Mapping Group Staff
Jason Young, Senior GIS Technician, M.SC. Earth & Atmospheric Sciences:
Jason has 7 years experience as a professional GIS technician. His experience includes work as an independent consultant, as the GIS Technologist with the Department of Biological Studies, University of Alberta, and as GIS Technologist with the Alberta Caribou Committee. Most recently, Jason has worked on developing the Cowichan Green Community’s GIS capacity through their one-year food security mapping project which has just wrapped up.
As the primary researcher and cartographer in the mapping department he is responsible for:
- data collection, quality control, & analysis
- cartography and map creation
- database design & implementation
Kelly Hays, Social Enterprise Intern:
Kelly has 7 yrs of forestry experience, natural resource surveying, and GPS data collection. However, Kelly’s passion and experience lies in graphic design and website development; this interest began ten years ago, and two years ago Kelly made this the focus of his full time employment. Since then he has completely re-developed the CGC website using Drupal 6, including an interactive map and events calendar. Drupal 6 is one of the most powerful content management systems available, capable of meeting any website needs.
Kelly’s Mapping Group responsibilities include:
- graphic design and aesthetics of print and on-line maps
- Web-site design, development and maintenance
Judy Stafford, Executive Director:
Judy has over 25 years of management experience including 20 years in the banking industry. She has excellent project management experience as well as strong communication, report writing, and budgeting skills. She provides overall management for CGC.
John Milne, Managing Director, B.A. Masters of Environment (ongoing):
John has over 10 years of project management and team-lead experience and has 5 years experience in community-based research with a focus on community mapping. John manages the day-to-day operations of CGC and has direct oversight over the mapping department.
